Megan Hill has lived in Maldon all her life and remains eternally grateful to the many local, amateur and professional musicians who have encouraged and supported her since she took up the violin at the age of six. It has been two years since Megan’s last recital for the MYO and she is very excited to be coming back.
Now a 3rd year student at Birmingham Conservatoire, Megan is very much looking forward to returning to a venue she knows so well, and to ‘catch up’ with the local musical community of which she is so proud to be a part.
Megan is now taught by Susanne Stanzeleit in Birmingham and, like all performers on the 4-year Bachelor of Music degree course, she is encouraged to gain performance experience in a wide variety of settings.
Since her last MYO recital, orchestral experience has included performances with the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra and Birmingham Conservatoire String, Repertoire and Symphony orchestras as well as taking part in a side by side scheme with the Welsh National Opera. Last April, Megan was also asked to play in a Masterclass with Head of Strings at The Purcell School, Charles Sewart.
As well as gaining valuable orchestral experience, Megan is also enjoying being the first violinist of the Hill string quartet and this summer is looking forward to being part of a chamber music recording project in London having had her name put forward by conductor of the Welsh Sinfonia, Mark Eager.
Megan will be playing a very varied programme from baroque to classical music, film to folk music and a bit of pop music!
Megan is currently playing on a violin that is kindly on loan to her from Birmingham Conservatoire, made by R.H.Ross in 2000.
